Amaya Recap: Episode 6

Datu Bugna washed and dried Amaya’s feet. He told his daughter to take care of her feet because they represent cleanliness and honor for him as her father. Furthermore, stepping on the ground disrespects his status as a Datu, and her dignity as well. Datu Bugna said it’s one of the reasons why a Binukot(hidden princess) like Amaya is kept hidden in their house nore are they allowed to step on the groud. Datu Bugna asked his daughter to promise that whatever happens, don’t ever step on the ground. Amaya in turn said she will do her best not let her feet get dirty. Datu noved how sad his daughter was so he asked what’s causing her to feel that way. He though she wasn’t happy that he cleaned her feet for her. Amaya bravely asked her Baba(Father) if it’s true that her Iloy(Mother) is an Uripon(slave). Bugna asked who told her but Amaya said it wasn’t important anymore who told her, but she wanted an honest answer. Datu Bugna reluctantly admitted to his daughter that indeed, her mother is an Uripon. Amaya asked how she looked like and if she looked like her too. She also asked if her Iloy(Mother) is a good person and if she loves her at all. Datu Bugna gestured her daughter to sit next to him them told her that her mother loves her so. Amaya wanted to know her whereabouts and why hasn’t she met her throughout her life. Datu Bugna sadly informed his daughter that she’s been dead for a long time. Amaya felt sad that she doesn’t have a mother at all. Datu Bugna told her he’s still with her but Amaya wanted to know how her mother died. Datu Bugna didn’t want to talk about it, told his daughter to rest for the day, kissed her in her temple then hurriedly left her crying daughter.

In the jungle. Dian Lamitan wanted to make sure that Badu could the job she ordered him to do in exchange of a few Bulawan(gold) and his Timawa(free man) status. Badu admitted that it’s a hard thing to do and death will be his punishment if Datu Bugna finds out. Dian Lamitan wondered how Datu will find out when Badu will be leaving the Banwa(tribe/territory) and starting a new life in another place with his Bulawan(ginto). Badu said only if another Banwa will accept him, so he was not going to accept the job. Dian Lamitan quickly interrupted and told him he would do exactly as he ordered or she will punish him herself by telling everyone he tried to take advantage of her. She will make sure that her Bana(spouse) would believe her and she’s pretty sure Badu will be facing death for punishment. She asked him to pick. Be a rich free man or reach Sulad(land of the dead) right away.

Awi told his brother Datu Bugna that he’s not surprised at all that Amaya is inquiring about her mother especially not that she’s grown. Bugna said he is saddened for his daughter and understand how she dreams to have a Mother but no one could grant her wish. He blames himself for what happened. If he didn’t take Amaya from Dal’Lang, perhaps she’s still be alive. Awi told his brother that he did what was best for his daughter so there’s no point on dwelling on it.

Amaya woke up, looked around her bed, got down then laid right next to her caretaker. She grabbed the slave’s arm the wrapped it across her body. The slave woke up and asked Amaya why she got out of her bed. Amaya asked for her Hayohay‘s(lowest kinds of slaves) forgiveness and told her to just hold her and pretend she’s her Mother. The Hayohay lovingly obliged and hugged Amaya back to sleep.

At Rajay Mangubat’s Banwa(tribe/territory), Bagani was still training in the dead of the night. Songil encourage Bagani to try harder in throwing the dagger and told him to do it again. He told him to make sure to hit the target or he’ll deduce that he’s weak. Bagani got mad, grabbed the Bankaw(spear), told Songil he’s not weak, threw the spear hard and broke his target in half. Rajah Mangubat arrived and applauded his son. He told his son he looked ready to get his first Batuk(tattoo) so he should prepare for their travel coz they were leaving that exact moment. Bagani wanted to know where they were going and Rajah informed his son about an area he owns in a tribe named Sugbo and that’s where Bagani will prove to him that he’s a real man. Bagani smiled at his father who led his warriors to a victory shout.

Badu arrived at Amaya’s Bukot, killed the two guards then went up to get Amaya. The Hayohay fought Badu but slapped her into unconsciousness. Amaya called out for her Baba(Father) and fought Badu but he slapped her too hard she also went unconscious. Badu was successful in getting Amaya out of her Bukot. The sun has risen when the Hayohay found teh dead guards in the Bukot. She was screaming when Datu Bugna arrived, frantically looking for Amaya. The Hayohay quickly informed him that Badu was the one who took Amaya.

Badu was walking around the jungle, while carrying an unconscious Amaya. He saw a large rock and placed Amaya on top. He was confident no one would see him fulfill his mission given by Dian Lamitan. Before he could kill Amaya, he asked for her forgiveness but he had to do it to save his own life. That’s when Amaya’s twin snake showed up, crawled around Badu’s leg the bit him to death.

Rajah Mangubat brought Bagani in the jungle where his own Father used to take him to train. Bagani informed his father he was ready with hi first challenge but wondered what it could be. Songil shoved a captive into the ground, held a sword by his neck then told him to run further into the jungle. The poor captive ran for his life while Rajah Mangubat instructed his son to go after him with the Bankaw(spear). He told Bagani to hit him with it until he’s dead. Bagani apologized to hid Baba coz he couldn’t do what’s asked of him. Rajah Mangubat angrily ordered his son not to embarrass him. He told him to be a man and don’t come back to where they are until his body is not coverent with the captive’s blood then told him to go. Bagani did as he was told. Sonkil asked Rajah Mangubat if Bagani will be successful and finally get his first Batuk(tattoo). Rajah is confident that his heir won’t fail him. Bagani needs to finish his mission to make himself a full-blooded warrior. The warrior who will help him find and kill the woman who’s been prophesied to defeat Rajah.

Bagani was able to catch the hunted captive who asked him not to be killed. Bagani told him to leave right away before he could hurt him. The man thanked Bagani and called him a good Man, then ras as fast as he could away from Bagani. Meanwhile, Amaya finally woke up and found herself atop a huge rock. She started screaming bloody murder as soon as she saw her twin snake. Bagani heard the loud cry and ran towards it. Amaya yelled even louder upon seeing Badu’s dead body on the ground. The orange snake kept crawling towards Amaya which scared the little girl even more. She started asking for help and that’s when Bagani arrived, and hit the snake with the Bankaw. The snake wasn’t hurt but it crawled out of there. Bagani told Amaya that she was safe then asked who she was and what was she doing in the jungle. Amaya wasn’t about to be outdone so she asked Bagani the same questions.

Bagani assured Amaya that he’s not going to hurt her, then introduced himself and also told her he’s Rajah Mangubat’s son. Amaya was surprised to meet Bagani but was sure that he’s a gentleman so she bowed as a sign of greetings. Bagani told her it was unnecessary since he’s not an honorable man who deserves it because Rajah Mangubat will be embarrassed once he sees him. Amaya asked why. Bagani explained that he let the captive Man that’s he’s supposed to kill to get his first Batuk. Bagani then asked what she was doing there and why was there a dead body next to her. Amaya explained that the dead body is Badu, an Uripon. Bagani checked on him and saw the bite from the snake which Bagani concluded probably killed him. Bagani said Amaya was lucky coz the snake didn’t bite her. Furthermore, he’s also lucky because now he knows how not to humiliate his father. Bagani went back to Badu’s body, cut his leg with a sword, took the blood then spread it over his body.

At Datu Bugna’s Banwa, everyone got ready to search for Amaya. Awi was about to tell Bugna something but Bugna told him finding Badu was more important coz he kidnapped Amaya. Lamitan eavesdropped and smiled naughtily when Datu Bugna and Awi left in a huff.

Amaya asked Bagani why he was covering himself with blood so Bagani explained that he’ll make it look like it;s the blood from the Uripon that his father wanted him to kill. Bagani said he knew it’s not an honorable thing to do but he also can’t kill a man. Bagani asked what was keeping her thre, then told her to leave the jungle. Amaya told him she couldn’t do that because her feet are not supposed to touch the ground. Bagnai relaized that Amaya is a Binukot which the little girl confirmed and added that her father is Datu Bugna. Bagani remembered the name and said he’s part of his Father’s territory. Bagani asked how she and the Uripon arrived in the jungle and most importantly what were they doing there. Amaya explained that Badu kidnapped her but she doesn’t really know what his plans were coz he was already dead when she gained consciousness. Bagani realized that the snake saved Amaya who in turn was curious why the snake didn’t bite her too. Bagani said because he arrived to save her which makes her indebted to him so he asked her not to tell Rajah Mangubat or anyone else what he did or he wouldn’t help her get out of the jungle. Amaya promised she wouldn’t tell anyone Bagani wasn’t honorable by stealing someone else’s blood. Before Amaya could finish, Bagani told her to be quiet then told her to jump in his back so he could carry her out of the jungle, back to where Rajah Mangubat was. Amaya thanked Bagani and did exactly what he told her.

At Amaya’s Bukot, Mantal was ordering the Hayohay to clean the place up and remove all the blood traces. Lamitan found Marikit and Binayaan watching from above. Binayaan was crying and was mighty worried about waht Badu could have done to her sister. Marikit told her sister that Amaya is not their sister so she shouldn’t be crying about her. Lamitan agreed with Marikit then told Binayaan to wiper her tears coz they’re not supposed to cry over the child of an Uripon then told her daughters to go back to their Bukot. As soon as the girls left, Mantal told her sister to tell her the truth coz she knows how much Lamitan hates Amaya. Did she have anything to do with what Badu has done? Lamitan told her not to ask any questions but just think if it as a way for her to have peace. Especially now that Datu Bugna will never see his daughter again.

It was getting dark in the jungle so Angawat informed Rajah Mangubat that Bagani had been in the jungle for quite a while now. Songil said he’s worried about Bagani so he wants Rajah’s permission to check on him. Rajah Mangubat gestured him No then said Bagani is not a woman therefore he’s not to be fetched nor be taken cared off. He’s confident that his son will succeed in his mission. Paratawag saw someone approaching, and announced that it was Bagani. Songil was glad Bagani was back then notice the blood in his chest. Bagani said he succeeded in killing the captured Uripon. Rajah Mangubat said he knew his heir won’t fail him then wondered who the littler girl on his back was. Bagani informed his father that he found her in the jungle and that he’s a Binukot daughter of Datu Bugna. One of the warriors took the girl then put her in Paratawag’s back. Rajah Mangubat wa surprised to hear that she’s the daughter of Datu Bugna.

Rajah Mangubat asked who she was so Amaya gave him her name. Rajah Mangubat said her father is a good and loyal friend but also wondered what in the world was she doing in the jungle. Amaya bravely explained that she was kidnapped by an Uripon but thankfully his son Bagani arrived to save her. Bagani told his father to help Amaya and return to her Banwa. Rajah Mangubat ordered Paratawag to take Amaya back to her father’s Banwa. Mangubat then tapped Bagani’s shoulders and looked at him proudly.

In a jungle near Datu Bugna’s Banwa, he and Awi were tracking where Badu could have taked Amaya. Awi said Badu could have taken a Baroto to transport Amaya to another Banwa. Datu Bugna said before the left, he counted the Baroto(boat) and nothing was missing, therefore Badu couldn’t have crossed the sea which means he went to the jungle instead. One of the warriror’s asked Datu Bugna what made Badu commit such a crime. Datu Bugna said he doesn’t know either but whatever it is, it’s unforgivable. So he ordered them to kill Badu right away as soon as they see him. Just as he was instructing them to disperse, he heard his daughter’s voice calling for him. He took Amaya from Paratawag as soon as he saw her then asked Paratawag who he was and why was he carrying Amaya. The little girl informed her Baba that Paratawag is not an enemy. He was actually ordered by Rajah Mangubat to take her home. Datu Bugna respectfully apologized to Paratawag. Datu Bugna thanked Abba(God) coz he saw his daughter again and she’s finally safe. Awi asked Bai Amaya where Badu went. Amaya informed his Uncle that Badu is gone coz he got bitten by a snake that save her in the jungle. One of the warriors couldn’t believe that a snake saved Amaya. Amaya was adamant that a snake saved her that’s why Rajah Mangubat’s son Bagani found her alive. Paratawag was intrigued that a ferocious animal like a snake saved a person. Datu Bugna quickly told him not to be surprised coz it was Abba’s will to use the snake to save his for his daughter and be brought back alive to him. No more no less. Paratawag took the Datu’s explanation coz Abba(God) is a caring one. Datu Bugna told Paratawag to send Rajah Mangubat and his son his immense gratefulness and will forever be indebted to them for bringing back his daughter safe and sound. Paratawag said he’ll deliver the message then he and the other warriors left.

Back in Lamitan and Bugna’s house, Lamitan was having a party. She was telling everyone to celebrate and be merry. Bugna arrived and asked what all the merriment was about. Lamitan asked if there should really a reason to celebrate. Well, Bugna said, they should really celebarte coz Amaya had been found. Lamitan was surprised to hear that Amaya is safe. Datu Bugna proudly showed Amaya, alive and well which really didn’t bring joy to Lamitan.
